Greater SW Museum, Community Cultural Experience

Greater Southwest Historical Museum at 35 Sunset Drive, (580) 226-3857, is housed in a 40,000 square foot WPA carved stone building that offers a wide variety of western, cattle, military, oil and Indian collections and a Genealogical Library. Tracing the period form the Indian Territory days to the 1930s, this museum's exciting exhibits, collections, and memorabilia preserve the heritage of Ardmore Greater SW Museumpioneer life. Great Hall is a replica of a turn-of-the-century frontier community; it features a variety of "living" exhibits such as a blacksmith shop, a law office and a little red schoolhouse. Two wings of the museum feature collections of period jewelry and fashions, household items and early communication equipment. The Military Annex houses memorabilia from the American Revolution through Desert Storm. Admission is free. Hours: Wednesday - Saturday 10-5, Sunday 1-5.
